August 4th-7th, 2016 | Downtown Denver

Our greatest mission with the Denver Yoga Festival is to create a community for everyone who is interested in yoga, mindfulness, and meditation, while also acting as a springboard for the careers of incredible yoga professionals. We are hosting an inclusive event with an exclusive feel, so participants can expect to mix and mingle with their favorite teachers, enjoy intimate conversations about the big picture of yoga in our society, as well as laugh and cry on their mats with friends and family. We are really excited to be offering experiences that are not a part of a traditional yoga festival, combining our favorite things about city life into our yoga program. Along with asana, lectures and mediation, we have authentic and unique experiences like yoga brunch, tea time and meditation, yoga on Coors Field, FREE kids camp, outdoor adventures, panel discussions on the state of yoga, yoga fashion show, vendor spotlights on health & wellness, live music & dance parties, and three pre-festival workshops including Reiki Certification, Adaptive Yoga Certification and Embody YOU: A Journey into Wholeness.

"I had a life changing experience at this event. There is a deep spiritualism and a number or related philosophies associated with yoga and the rituals surrounding the multifaceted practice. One of the teachers from India was especially interesting, and in a chat with Satra after his lecture he explained his premise that the closer we get to an understanding of our insignificance, the more we will be connected to everything. I had read about this in multiple texts, but remembered one that really inspired me, written by Rev Sale (not a preacher, but a philosopher). His essay, In Search of Nothing, was a collection of ideas including how the ancient philosophers used arguments based on the notion of "nothing" to conclude both the existence and non-existence of God. Satra actually was familiar with this writer and we had a very long discussion of how ideas like "nothing" are directly connected to concepts like "everything" and even to the notion of "existence." I was blown away by this interaction and I'm going back to Baltimore a changed man, with more respect and admiration for cultural differences that inspire me to think outside the box. Yoga can do that for you. This was an amazing event. I learned many new positions and met many like minded yoga enthusiasts. I will never be the same!" Jason Rodriguez, Baltimore

We are supporting several incredible organizations which facilitate, adaptive yoga for those physically disabled and scholarship passes for those who can't otherwise afford to practice. We are also working with other event hosts bringing yoga to the masses, inspiring neighborhood events, and a new take on the dance party. Another unique offering at DYF is a student participation component which engages participants to share their favorite parts of the festival, and teachers throughout the year. We honor presenters with awards like Lifetime Achievement, honoring contributions to yoga in the West and Uniting Yogi, honoring those who collaborate and are inclusive in offerings to the yoga community as a whole.

The festivities take place in the heart of the city at the historic Oxford Hotel and Oxford Club Spa & Salon. As the capital city, we boast an historic downtown, bustling nightlife, and mountain playgrounds at our fingertips with a seamless trip from the airport directly to the festival via our new light rail system. Join us for a world-class event that brings the yoga community as a whole together in our great city.

The Denver Yoga Festival is meeting the needs of Denver’s growing and engaged yoga community by hosting a festival right in the heart of downtown.

“The mission of the Denver Yoga Festival is to create a community for everyone interested in yoga, while also acting as a springboard for the careers of incredible yoga professionals,” said Russell, director of Denver Yoga Festival.

The majority of classes and workshops will be held at Denver’s Union Station and The Oxford Hotel downtown, with some remote classes taking place around the greater metro area. Kids Yoga Guide Camp: Denver Yoga Festival will offer free kids camp courtesy of Flex Yoga + Barre with the purchase of an adult ticket. The camp will teach kids confidence and creativity through games and music, peace through yoga, and self- expression through dance.

Options for Disabled: Denver Yoga Festival will offer classes for those in wheel chairs or those with physical issues and special needs. The festival supports several organizations, which facilitate yoga for veterans, adaptive yoga for those physically disabled, and scholarship passes for those who can’t otherwise afford it.

The Denver Yoga Festival will host some of the most spirited and influential yoga teachers from Colorado and the surrounding regions. Yoga goes urban at Union Station with first Denver Yoga Festival

By COLLEEN O'CONNOR | coconnor@denverpost.com | The Denver Post
August 3, 2016 at 10:35 am

The first Denver Yoga Festival is capitalizing on the growing popularity of the city, which recently topped U.S. News & World Report’s list of 2016 Best Places to Live.

Unlike many other yoga festivals held in remote wilderness destinations, the Denver Yoga Festival is showing off its urban chic in a four-day extravaganza Aug. 4-7 that takes yoga to the streets with a morning yoga class on Union Station Plaza and a yoga flash mob in front of the fountains at Union Station.

Models also will show off the latest in yoga gear, walking around the plaza in a free yoga fashion show that features mostly small, local companies.

“Denver is a very big yoga market,” said festival founder Sarah Russell , a yoga entrepreneur who launched the Breathe Yoga & Cycling studios in Denver. “There are a lot of studios, and a lot of people moving to Denver right now, so the pie just keeps getting bigger.”

She designed the festival to unite all the different yoga communities, from business owners to fashion designers and yoga teachers.

As part of the festival, yoga events will also be held at the historic Oxford Hotel, including meditation and tea with renowned meditation teacher Lorin Roche.

Yoga classes range from Vinyasa and yin to Sacred Movement Flow with live music.

“There’s also a  yoga class in a brewery, and I can’t think of anything more Colorado because breweries got really big here,” said Russell.

Local yogi Tyrone Beverly, founder of Im’Unique, will lead Yoga Day at the Rockies in Coors Field, and Boulder teacher Gina Caputo will lead “BrunchAsana” that incorporates a yoga class with brunch.

There’s also a free kids’ camp, a panel of yoga business owners, and a Saturday night dance party with live music by Mental Physix & Kiyoshi.

Single-day tickets range from $75 to $95, and a four-day pass is $299.

Sarah Rumsey

Sarah truly believes that through this practice, we get out of our own way and if we let it, it becomes a vehicle always leading us back to ourselves. Through sharing the practice, Sarah's intention is to offer up what her teachers have passed down to her, a safe space to move towards our humanness. Sarah is registered as an E-RYT with Yoga Alliance and is currently working on her 500-hour ParaYoga Master Certification with Rod Stryker. Sarah has trained with many wonderful teachers including Seane Corn, Amy Ippoliti and others.
